So. What you are about to check out is something a little different than what you are used to seeing here at Active Family Photo, but is something I hold just as close to my heart. This post is about a different kind of family, the skate community. Youth deserve to play, but let’s face it, we don’t all have the same opportunities in life. This is where the good people at For Pivots Sake come in to play. Since 2012, they have been putting used skateboards into the hands of Ottawa’s underprivileged youth all while providing mentorship and spreading positivity. The long list of accolades includes (and definitely not limited to) donating over 100 skateboards, supplying community centres with helmets and sending kids to summer camp. Brilliant. Beautiful.
Needless to say, I’m overwhelmed with stoke to have been able to contribute to this group with a set of photos documenting their 2nd annual Hops + Fodder fundraising dinner. Held in the historic Bridgehead Roastery building in Ottawa with a collaboration of local chefs, brewers, florists, DJs and a slew of volunteers the event was a glaring success. Through the eye of my lens, it was clear that the eclectic crowd had a good time and socialized over some amazing food and beer, family style.
Enjoy the story that unfolded over the evening in this small selection of photos and be sure to check out the links for those who contributed to the event at the end of this post. They are good people and engaged in the community. Shop local, drink good beer and LET THE KIDS SKATE!
